Choosing the Right Fast Food
It would seem that fast food has gotten a bad rap in the last ten or twenty years, and that is not without good reason. Most of the items that you can find in many chain food restaurants are not very good for you and should only be eaten on occasion. Many of these food items are high in fat and calories, and offer very little nutritional support as compared to home cooked meals. However, this has changed somewhat in recent years. You can still get the same fatty meals, but you can also get some stuff that will be much better for you when you need a meal in a hurry.
One of the first fast food additions was the salad. Some already has these, but they were not very good. Most didn’t buy them. Today, you can find all types of really good salads that won’t disappoint. Some are better than others, but all are much healthier than the traditional burger and fries that you may get when you order fast food. These salads are larger than a side salad and they come with some lean, marinated meats like chicken and beef in some cases.
You can find even more good options for healthy fast food today. Besides salads, some are making fruit based items along with wraps. When buying wraps, you save a lot of calories as apposed to bread, but make sure the items inside the wrap are healthy as well. Deep fried chicken in fast food wraps might not be the best, but slow roasted, marinated chicken breast is a great idea. Some come with sauces that can be rather heavy in calories, so ask them to make it light if you want to cut down even more.
Some chains are based on giving you nutritious fast food choices. Places like Subway have great selections. Even their most calorie dense foods are better for you than some burgers and fries. You will also find that places like Applebee’s have what you might consider quick meals at a much better taste. You can call ahead and order, and then zip by to pick up your meal. Other restaurants like Outback Steakhouse do this, and more are following suit. The options you have for fast food are growing, and you don’t have to gain five pounds to enjoy good food more quickly. You can feel better about feeding yourself and your family when you make the right choices.
Summary
All fast food is not bad for you. It depends on your menu choices. Salads and fruit are now part of just about every menu and restaurants such as Subway offer low calorie delicious lunch fare that help keep you healthy and fit. Stay away from most sauces and go for wraps as much as possible.
