Colored Contacts
I actually got my first pair of colored contacts as a gag a few years ago. It was Halloween and I wanted to go all-out. I decided on a pair of cats eye colored contact lenses. Back then, they was sort of a novelty. I had not really seen many of them before, and I was impressed by how they looked. When you put them on, they would make your eyes looked just like those of a real cat. Of course there were more conventional colored lenses back then too – ones that would change your eyes from brown to blue, for example – but I really wanted a good gag for Halloween.
It actually went off pretty well. People really appreciated the effort I put into my costume, and a few of them had to really do a double take the first time they saw me. Unfortunately, it was kind of expensive to get your contacts colored and it was hard to wear that particular pair every day. People just found it too freaky, and it wasn't really suited for work. That is why I gave up colored contacts for the next year or so.
When I came back to colored contacts eventually, I was pretty impressed with what I saw. They had come down a lot in price, and the varieties available were pretty extraordinary. You can get contacts colored in pretty much any style you want. You can get some very naturalistic designs and some pretty far out looks. Whatever you want you can find it, and the prices are good enough that most people can afford them.
The funny thing about wearing colored contacts for me is the reactions I get. You see, most of the time I do not wear far out ones. I will change my eye color to pretty plausible colors and see how people react. Most people don't consciously remember the color of your eyes, but they know there is something strange and different about you. You get a lot of double takes and a few questions, but people almost never get it. I even had a little bit of fun at the expense of some of my coworkers using my lenses. When you wear a different shade of color contacts pretty much every day for a week or two, you are bound to get some strange looks! Even so, most days I just wear clear contacts. After all, I really like the natural color of my eyes.
