The Complexity Of The Human Brain
If you have inquisitive children, you may find yourself answering a bunch of questions about just about everything and anything. Some things are very easy to talk about, and some subjects can be uncomfortable. On top of that, some are so complex that you are not sure what you should say, and you hope they can learn what they need while in school. One of the most complicated things that we have is the human brain. Trying to explain how it works is awfully hard, and many parents have no idea where they should start.
The human brain moves and controls the body. That can be a good place to start because it is easy to understand. The brain sends electrical pulses out to muscles when we want them to move. There are involuntary movements like heartbeat and breathing, and then there are things we wish to do, like walk, lift a spoon, or scratch an itch. The human brain controls all of those things almost instantaneously. Children can understand the brain sending out signals to get the muscles to do what we want and we don’t really have to think about it too hard for common motions and movements.
One thing about the human brain that most children will want to know is about why we dream. This is a thing the brain does while we sleep, though no one can really seem to agree on why it happens. The human brain can not store the knowledge and experiences it has gone through that day until a person has slept. While we sleep, the brain is busy filing these things away. It never stops and it never rests. Dreams can be a results of the jumbled things from our day, and may even be a way to keep us entertained while we sleep.
When it comes to issues of metal health, children often can not really understand what depression and things like mania are all about. This is because their experience with these is (hopefully) limited or non-existent. All you can say in these cases is that there are times when things in the human brain are not working right or are out of balance. When that happens, it can affect the mood of a person, or can make them do things they would not normally do. You can try to find kid friendly explanations on the Internet to help you out with such subjects that leave you lacking for a simple way to explain.
Summary
The human brain is a very complex working machine. It controls all bodily functions and never really rests completely. The brain can be afffected by foods and emotional issues which can cause the entire body to not function at it's best. Dreaming is something most kids ask about and it can best be explained as the brain filing away the memories of the day in it's own special way.
