There are many reasons to worry about public bathrooms. Even the ones your children use at school might not be as clean as you would hope they would be. I have been in many of them, just as you probably have, and you know that they range from ‘not bad’ to ‘there is no way I am using this place.’ What might make you feel better when you have to use such a place is having a good hand wash with you wherever you go.

Be careful about what type of hand wash you do use, especially if you have children. If you use the type that requires no water, make sure you only use it when you absolutely have to do so. That is because they are very high in alcohol content and that can seep into the skin after a while. That means you should carry this type of antibacterial hand wash with you for emergencies, but use other soaps that rinse with water whenever you can. Make sure your children understand that they should only use that on occasion as well. The affects of the alcohol could be an even bigger problem for them.

Some carry regular hand wash because many public bathrooms are simply out of it, even though they have clean and running water. If you go into one that does not have a working sink, you probably won’t want to use it anyway. However, we all know there are times when you have no choice. Most have at least some water though, and a small container of hand wash can be great when the one in the bathroom is empty, or even if you aren’t sure you want to touch the dispenser.

When choosing a portable hand wash, you can choose whatever brand you like best, but take a close look at the container. In most cases, you would store it in your purse or a carry-all, and that means you want something that will not easily leak. Opening your bag or purse to find hand wash all over everything would not be a fun way to spend the afternoon. Make sure the container is secure before you buy to avoid that, and get something that is small enough to be easily carried. Also, don’t forget that wash is great, but there are times when you can’t get to a sink. Baby and other wipes meant for messes also work every well, and are a handy thing to have in the car at all times.
