Low Carb Fast Food

When I started on a low carb diet, I was a little bit dismayed at the difficulty I would have maintaining it. Everyone wants to be able to cook and eat healthy food, but for some of us it is just not an option. I might have time to prepare a nutritious low carb dinner now and again, but in general my Atkins diet food will have to be consumed on the go. In my job, I am always driving everywhere. Unless I could find low carb fast food, there would be no way I could stick to the diet.

When I first started the Atkins weight loss diet, I figured that there was no way I could find low carb fast food. After all, fast food is all about burgers, tacos, and other meals with a high starch content. A burger and fries, in my opinion, is the best meal when you're on the go, but there is no such thing as a low carb big Mac with cheese!

What I didn't realize at the time was that low carb diets have been around for so long that the fast food industry has adapted. Believe it or not, you can find low carb fast food! Sometimes, it is just a simple matter of modifying an existing meal. Many restaurants will allow you to order a burger without the bun, often substituting cottage cheese or some other proteinaceous addition. Other ones actually have a whole low carb menu dedicated to people who are trying to cut out carbohydrates from their diets.

It is true that low carbohydrate food definitely limits your meal options at many restaurants – particularly fast food ones. The first time I went to McDonald's after switching to a low carbohydrate diet, I was in for a real disappointment. I have absolutely adored their hamburgers and french fries for years, and being unable to eat them was a major blow. There was one thing that I wanted there, and I couldn't have it. Still, I was able to compromise with myself, making up for the absence of bun and fries by adding bacon onto my cheeseburger. All in all, I still got a yummy meal, and I was able to stick with my diet. After that, I wasn't shy about asking for low carb fast food. If you have dietary restrictions, you have to be willing to speak up. The servers will certainly honor your requests.

Summary

Low carb fast food choices are out there if you consider the menu options available to you. Simple changes like ordering a hamburger with no bread and giving yourself a treat every now and then like extra bacon for flavor and taste. Sticking with a diet plan is always hard, but adding a bonus occasionally will help keep your resolve strengthened.
